What You Should Know about Veneers

Dental veneers are becoming increasingly popular by providing lasting solutions for people with chipped teeth. Dental veneers are hardly visible due to their almost invisible nature, as they appear like natural teeth. They are also known as “Smile Makeovers’ as they guarantee to provide you with a flawless smile by improving the shape, appearance, and even color of your damaged tooth. Dental veneers are often recommended for minor, aesthetic issues such as worn-out teeth, uneven teeth spaces, stained teeth, and crooked teeth. In this post, we will tell you why you should consider Orlando veneers.

What Are the Different Types of Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are usually made of several materials, each with pros and cons. Your healthcare provider will help you choose which type of dental veneer is best for you. In most cases, the cosmetic uses of veneers are for modifying your front teeth rather than your back teeth. The following are the five main types of dental veneers:

1) Porcelain Veneers

Pros:

  • Do not stain easily
  • Have a natural-looking appearance
  • Less tooth enamel is removed than with a cap or crown
  • Are strong and durable

Porcelain veneers are the most commonly used type of dental veneers as they comprise tooth-colored ceramic shells. In addition to having the teeth’s natural appearance, these veneers are strong enough to withhold excessive biting pressure. Porcelain veneers are also preferred as they do not cause allergic reactions to your surrounding tissues.

2) Composite Veneers

Pros:

  • Are less expensive than porcelain veneers
  • They are easy to fix if they become damaged
  • In most cases, this type of veneer only requires one dental visit
  • Less tooth enamel needs to be removed than for porcelain veneers and crowns

Composite veneers are designed using composite resin, which comprises both inorganic and organic substances. The inorganic particle contains a filler, while the organic particle contains a coupling agent, resin, and an initiator. Despite the use of an inorganic particle, composite veneers have no adverse effect on the neighboring teeth and surrounding tissues.

3) Lumineers

Lumineers are another type of dental veneer made up of an ultra-thin porcelain laminate material. Like porcelain veneers, Lumineers are durable and can be applied with minimal teeth preparation. Lumineers also feel like natural likes and their smooth surfaces can be easily felt once they are bonded over your teeth.

4) Palatal Veneers

Lingual Veneers, sometimes called Palatal Veneers, are custom-built appliances used to restore the natural smooth surface of your front teeth. They are usually fabricated with several materials like composite materials, gold, and porcelain laminates.

5) Temporary Veneers

Temporary veneers, also known as Snap-on veneers or removable veneers, comprise a flexible type of resin. They are usually considered temporary solutions before the permanent dental veneers are fabricated. These temporary veneers also serve as mouth guards and help hide various teeth imperfections.

Placement Procedure

Before placing your dental veneers, your dentist will first have to prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the sides and front of the teeth. This helps leave adequate room for the veneers so that your teeth can look and feel natural. Your dentist will then make a mold or impression of the prepared teeth to help decide which type of dental veneer is suitable. The impression is then taken to a lab where your permanent dental veneers will be fabricated. You will be given temporary veneers to wear in the meantime.
