Most Commonly Used Psychedelic Substances

Psychedelics are a group of psychoactive drugs that alter or enhance thought processes, energy levels, and sensory perceptions. These substances are mostly used for recreational purposes, but some research suggests that psychedelics Sandy Springs can treat certain mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. However, psychedelics can cause dependence and be dangerous if misused; therefore, if you want to use them to treat symptoms of a mental health condition, proceed with caution. Additionally, talk to your doctor or a mental health professional beforehand.

LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide)

LSD is an extremely potent hallucinogen in ergot, a fungus that infects rye and other grains. Because of its strength, LCD doses tend to be in micrograms. Small doses of LSD can produce mild changes in mood, thought, and perception, while larger amounts may result in visual hallucinations and distortions of time and space.

In its pure state, lysergic acid diethylamide is an odorless crystalline substance with a bitter taste. Because of its potency, an effective dose of the pure drug is so small and virtually invisible. As such, LSD is usually mixed with other substances like gelatin sheets, pieces of blotting paper, or sugar cubes, which slowly release the drug when swallowed.

Mescaline

Mescaline is a hallucinogenic substance that naturally occurs in small, spineless cacti Peyote, Peruvian torch cactus, the San Pedro cactus, and other cacti containing mescaline; it can also be produced synthetically. Like other hallucinogenic drugs, mescaline produces rich, intense visual hallucinations. The effects of mescaline kick in typically an hour after consumption and may last between eight to 12 hours. However, the experience might vary depending on your dose; there is no way to predict how a user’s experience will play out.

Dimethyltryptamine (DMT)

DMT, also known as Dimitri, is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug that naturally occurs in the bark and nuts of certain trees but can also be made in a laboratory. Its effects are similar to psychedelics like lysergic acid diethylamide and magic mushrooms but don’t last as long as them. Regarding its psychoactive effects, the feeling is similar to traveling at an extremely high speed through a tunnel of lights and shapes. Some people describe feeling like they have left their physical body and transformed it into something else. Some report traveling to a different world and communicating with spiritual or alien-like beings.

As with most drugs, the experience is different for each person; some enjoy the experience, while others find it overwhelming or frightening.

Ecstacy

Ecstacy is both a stimulant and psychedelic but has less pronounced hallucinogenic effects. It is also known as a designer drug because it was created to enhance an individual’s mood. People describe the experience as a rush of good feelings that intensify feelings, whether they are good or bad. You are likely to experience this for about six hours. Your heart rate may increase, and you may also have a dry mouth, blurred vision, chills, sweating, clenched teeth, and nausea. Ecstacy can also make you feel confused, anxious, and paranoid like someone is plotting against you. Eventually, ecstasy may damage the brain cells involved in thinking and memory.
