Is Azor a blood thinner?

High blood pressure or hypertension is a disease that often goes unnoticed unless a person does regular blood pressure monitoring or already faces complications such as stroke and heart attack. It is also known as a “silent killer”. It is important to get treatment for hypertension to avoid complications. Two persons diagnosed with the same hypertension state may be given different drugs. Thus, do not be surprised if you are given drugs differently than other people because antihypertensive drugs prescribed depend on a person’s health condition and other medical issues.

Hypertension is a long-term disease and. In most cases, a person will need to take antihypertensive drugs for the rest of their life once diagnosed with hypertension. A person’s current treatment may be changed due to many reasons in future. In hypertension cases that could not be controlled with one drug, combination of drugs is common. Azoren 40 mg is one of the antihypertensive drugs that combines two kinds of drugs. People who take Azoren may wonder if this drug is a blood thinner.

Azoren is not a blood thinner. Blood thinner works in preventing blood clots from forming. Blood thinner is also known as anticoagulants. Azoren is not considered as blood thinner as it does not perform this function. Azoren 40 mg contains 40 mg of olmesartan medoxomil and 5 mg of amlodipine. Olmesartan belongs to the drug class of angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) whereas amlodipine belongs to the drug class of calcium channel blocker (CCB). ARB works by blocking the substance known as angiotensin hormone from causing constriction of blood vessels. CCB works by preventing calcium from entering into the heart’s cell and blood vessels. Ultimately, ARB and CCB work to relax the blood vessels and lower high blood pressure.

Azoren can be considered as a combination of two different drug types of antihypertensive drugs. This combination gives a great effect on lowering blood pressure compared to taking one of the two components alone. Azoren is usually prescribed by a doctor when a person’s high blood pressure is unable to be controlled with only one antihypertensive drug. Apart from treating hypertension, Azoren is also used to treat other related heart disease such as coronary artery disease and angina.

Azoren has to be taken regularly in order for the drug to be working effectively. It is best to be taken at the same time of the day to help patients remember taking it regularly. Azoren should be taken as a whole tablet. If the tablet is not taken as a whole, this may compromise the way the drug works in the body. Recommended dose is one tablet a day but this dosage may be changed by your doctor depending on your condition. Azoren tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water to prevent choking.

People diagnosed with hypertension may have other ongoing medical conditions. It is important for patients to let their doctor know if they do have other medical conditions such as kidney problems or in pregnancy and are taking other medicine. This helps to prevent drug interactions that could bring harm to patients. Drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other antihypertensive drugs like diuretic, antibiotics such as erythromycin and antifungal such as ketoconazole and itraconazole may cause interaction with Azoren. There are still other medicines that may react with Azoren. Hence, it is important for patients to notify their doctor if they are taking other medicines for other medical conditions.

Azoren, just as with any other medicines, does have potential side effects. It is worth noting that medicines prescribed by doctors are always evaluated to bring more benefits than its side effects. Common side effects include headache, dizziness and swelling of the limb such as the hand, ankle or leg. Some people may feel drowsy or sleepy after taking Azoren. If a patient does experience drowsiness or sleepiness, they should avoid working with machines or driving vehicles on their own and need to tell their doctor so that doctor can provide alternatives.

It can be concluded that Azoren is not a blood thinner, but rather an antihypertensive medication. Azoren those with hypertension to control high blood pressure. This is helpful in reducing risk for heart diseases and organ damages such as the brain and kidney. The combination of the type of antihypertensive drugs into one tablet helps patients to take medications regularly and easily. Patients should not stop taking Azoren although they feel fine. Patients should also not stop taking medicine as abrupt stops may risk a person to experience rebound effects. Rebound effect means the blood pressure will rise again and increase risk for complications that could be life-threatening. It is important for patients to take Azoren as instructed by the doctor by following the right dose and frequency. Any enquiries or questions regarding medicines should be addressed to healthcare providers.
