How Can People Recover From Coronavirus Disease?

As we are currently living in the time of Covid-19 pandemic, it is important to understand that there are risks for any of us to catch the virus, whenever we are out in public spaces or running some errands at the bank or post office. Even though Covid-19 has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, it does not mean that your life is over if you got infected. A lot of people do recover from the infection with a significant number of them are only affected with mild symptoms. Getting yourself tested is the easy part with all the on-site Covid-19 test, but how do you actually recover from the viral infection?

For those infected, as we are all aware, there is no specific cure for Covid-19. Multiple organizations are having studies and researches ongoing to develop vaccines or possible cure. The reality is, for now, parts of the treatment and recovery are basically supportive and preventive measures to avoid unwanted complications and managing them. So, for most cases, those with mild Covid-19’s symptoms, they can definitely be managed at home, as long as they know what to expect and when to get help. It is also worth noting that it is important to stay home in order to get the infection contained and limited. Stay home, unless urgent medical care is needed.

So when should you leave your home to get medical help? For this, the public should be aware of the warning signs. These include breathing difficulties, persistent pain in the chest, development of new confusion, bluish lips or face, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Once you have serious symptoms such as the ones listed, it is probably a good idea to go out to get some urgent medical care. As the illness progresses, patients can develop more trouble breathing and other possible complications that may eventually lead to the need of ventilator support.

In order to recover from the infection, it helps to have some basic supplies ready. Enough grocery supplies are essential to ensure the patients to stay isolated in the comfort of their homes. Besides that, over-the-counter medicines can be helpful. The likes of paracetamol or acetaminophen can spare you the headache and give you a more comfortable rest. It does not mean that you need to stay in bed all day, but you do need to get plenty of rest. Besides that, it is also advisable to drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated.

Another good thing to keep in mind is that infection of Covid-19 does not necessarily provide immunity to the virus. In fact, there are cases where those who recovered get re-infected with the same culprit.  Therefore, it is important to practice good measures such as promoted, because once you are already infected, there is no promise that you won’t catch it for a second time. The vital precaution like quarantine or self-isolation is to make certain that the virus is not unknowingly spread, especially in this context, by people who think they are already immune and free from the virus.

So, what can we make out of this? Yes, Covid-19 is contagious and can easily spread to others, but most people infected only have mild symptoms. They can be managed at home unless they start to develop possible deadly complications. Until researchers came up with the cure or working vaccines for Covid-19, people worldwide need to be ready to adapt the new norm, probably for a longer time than we initially expected, in order to keep the whole world population safe and sound.
