Compression Garments and Its Various Uses

People who stand for longer periods and have poor circulation of blood, those people should use compression garments. During exercises, some people wear these compression garments, so that they can prevent chafing and rashes. One of the benefits that you will get of these garments is that it helps to ease muscle stiffness and there is a quick recovery time during the post exercise. There are also various uses of compression garments in the medical field or medicine. Compression garments are mostly used to treat edema, venous insufficiency, prevent deep vein thrombosis post operation in patients. Another thing you will know about compression garments is that these garments have become popular among the athletes.

Compression Garments –

You can also get compression garments for lymphedema too. From limbs to limbs segment, the compression areas vary most of the time. Like socks, sleeves, shorts and others. Another thing that you will notice about the compression garments is that the fiber blends with the garments containing more or less huge quantity of elastane (spandex). The pressure that the body or the human tissue gets depends mainly on the fibers that is used for the garments, including the garment size and design and the body size, which is due to the different underlying human tissues, and are the body posture and movements.

Mechanism of Compression Garments –

Compression garments are most of the time smaller in than the body size to be covered. Plus, in a compression garment, the compression is obtained by the elongation force which is applied or put on the yarns and fibers. Till today, people could not understand the mechanism of compression in response to the human tissues and to the external pressure is not known fully. There is also a modeling, which has shown large heterogeneities of pressure distribution inside the leg. Besides, that the elasticity of the compression garments used has a great influence, which is made on the changes in the pressure, applied to the human tissue and the muscle pump function. Besides that, it is also shown that no elastic compression on the calf led to a important increase in venous pumping, whereas elastic sports stockings did not show any pivotal change.

No Benefit for Athletes –

One of the things that you will know is that many people have studied about the influence of compression garments on the body performance and there has been no evidence for their benefits. The effects of knee-high socks with separate levels of compression was applied on the performance of 15 athletes and there was found no effect of the compression on the heart rate, stroke, volume, arterial lactate concentration, arterial oxygen saturation. Similar results were found when 23 students wore the compression garments that were used on the lower limbs and it showed no clear beneficial effects on the performance.

Beneficial Effects –

But there are beneficial effects of the compression garments when the garments are worn for lymphedema. During recovery, as per the 5 studies that showed the effect. The pressure that was applied did not co-relate or link with the effects measured as both the kinds of pressure, i.e. low pressure and high pressure showed much benefits. Compression garments are available in standard sizes and not in made to measure. Such garments are designed which forces pressure on the lymphatic fluids, towards a functioning or working lymph node. It is one of the most effective forms of treatment and prevention, which is presently available. Even people who have developed some kind of injury or ulcers even for them the compression garment is very useful. Through a specialized computer, assisted manufacturing process the effectiveness of compression bands is enhanced. A 3D model of the affected part is construed and then later there is a communication between the hospital and the garment manufacturer and this way effective compression garments are made.
