Carcinogenic Found in Various Sunscreens

Summer is all about swimming costumes and hanging out at the pool or the beach with your friends. And while summer can be fun, it’s equally important to look after your skin that stays exposed to the sun all day long.

Many of us use sunscreens to protect our skin from getting tan and the sun’s harmful rays. But, only a few care enough to research the ingredients of these products. A benzene sunscreen lawsuit can help you when you’ve used a sunscreen that has posed significant risks to your health.

In this post, we are going to cover all the essential information you need to know about carcinogens found in multiple sunscreens.

What is a carcinogenic substance?

Any substance that promotes the growth of cancer in the human body is known as a carcinogenic substance. There are various carcinogenic substances; some well-known are nickel, radon, benzene, and vinyl chloride.

Studies have found the carcinogenic substance ‘Benzene’ in around 78 sunscreens and after-sun products.

An independent lab and pharmacy called Valisure perform testing of different types of products in their lab. To find a “clean” sunscreen, they had recently tested 300 sunscreens in its lab.

Upon testing, they found an excessive amount of benzene in 27% or 78 sunscreens. According to Valisure, some sunscreens had three times the amount of benzene recommended by the FDA, that is, two parts per million.

This might be a manufacturing defect as the amount of benzene in the sunscreen varied from batch to batch, which indicates a significant fault on the manufacturer’s part.

Health dangers of Benzene:

Benzene is a highly inflammable, colorless, or yellow-colored chemical. This chemical is mainly manufactured for the making of plastic, rubbers, resins, and synthetic fibers.

Benzene can cause serious health hazards. It can have a significant effect on human blood and bone marrow, resulting in anemia or, worse, leukemia.

Women coming in contact with benzene regularly may experience irregular menstruation cycles. For pregnant women, it can affect the fetus and fertility in men.

How can I protect myself?

To protect yourself from this dangerous chemical, make sure you check the ingredients of the products you’re using and remove any that contains benzene. If you’re already using one or experiencing sickness from using one, take the following steps.

  1. Consult a doctor immediately and document your sickness.
  2. Hire a good lawyer to get compensated in case of a severe injury.
  3. Collect evidence of your purchase.
